BBC Academy completes relocation

The BBC Academy has completed the relocation of its central London production training studio from Marylebone to White City.
The media gallery control room at BBC Academy’s new studio in White City is centered on an 11-bay production desk and a 10ft sound desk.
The project, carried out by ATG Broadcast in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, included the installation and commissioning of a media gallery control room and studio floor, including traditional tape-based equipment as well as file-based technology.
"Moving the Marylebone facility to White City forms part of the integration of the BBC's technical training activities into a college of production, which will operate in conjunction with the college of journalism and the college of leadership and management," said Nick Hall, technical services manager at the BBC Academy.
"The new site has the advantage of being close to BBC Television Center and adjacent to Media Village. It can operate in conjunction with the BBC's engineering training facilities at Wood Norton," he said.
The BBC Academy project was completed during college vacation in time for the start of the 2009-10 semesters. ATG Broadcast partnered with Overbury, an office design specialist with a long history of media-related work for clients such as BBC Worldwide, BSkyB, Guardian News and Media and Google, on the project.
The control gallery centers on an 11-bay production desk and a 10ft sound desk, both of which were preinstalled at ATG Broadcast's Letchworth facility. The desks (Module-R) themselves and media wall are from Custom Consoles.
