Robert Turner, a well-known figure in the video post-production industry, passed away at his home in Scituate, MA, July 15, from lung cancer. He was 54-years-old.

A professional video editor by trade, Turner also spent many years as a contributing editor of Videography magazine, before writing for the Primedia Business publication Video Systems and the online e-newsletter “The Cut”.

He served as Chief Editor for Devlin Productions, in New York City, where his editing skills were recognized in many award winning videos including John Lennon’s Steppin’ Out, which was nominated for an MTV Award.

Craig Birkmaier, a colleague and current regular columnist for Broadcast Engineering magazine said: “Our industry has lost a valuable resource. I can think of no one who had (or has) a better grasp of the subject of video editing and the ability to translate this into useful information for those making buying decisions. Anyone who attempts to do this in the future will have big shoes to fill.”

Turner was an active SMPTE member. He led the NYC chapter meeting in June.
