Singapore Exhibition Services, organizers of BroadcastAsia2003, has decided to forego the 2003 edition of the event, which was scheduled to take place 17-20 June at Suntec Singapore. CommunicAsia2003, which was to be held concurrently, will also be cancelled.
The show will not go on. Concerns about the SARS virus have prompted conference organizers to cancel this year's BroadcastAsia2003 conference. The next BroadcastAsia is scheduled to take place 15-18 June 2004.
This is a severe blow to business as usual in one of the Asian region’s key markets and one of its most widely attended shows. With the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in Singapore showing little improvement over the past few weeks and somewhat worsening in other parts of Asia, exhibitors and visitors alike had expressed concerns about their safety at the show.
Commenting on the difficult decision, Stephen Tan, Chief Executive, Singapore Exhibition Services Pte said, “With the WHO and U.S. CDC advisories against travelling to SARS affected areas, it became painfully obvious that foreign visitorship to the show would be severely affected.”
Tan added, “It is also our utmost priority to safeguard the well being of our exhibitors and visitors who have shown us unwavering support all these years.”
The next BroadcastAsia is scheduled to take place 15-18 June 2004.
