Belo manages transmission sites remotely with Harris Recon system

The Harris ReCon communicates with broadcast, network and facility-control equipment. It uses Internet Protocol (IP) to connect stations with both local and remote transmitters.

Belo Corporation has selected Harris Broadcast Communications Division's ReCon remote control and facility management system for eight of the company's television stations.

Wayne Kube, Belo project manager/engineering, said that Belo plans to eventually install the Harris ReCon system in all of the company's television stations. The remote control and facility management system uses accessible IP networks to communicate with a variety of broadcast, network and facility control equipment at a transmission facility (HVAC, tower lights, security, etc.). ReCon enables stations to monitor multiple transmitters from a single site, as well as monitor and control transmitter functions.

ReCon systems will be placed at Belo television stations: WFAA-TV, Dallas/Fort Worth, Tex.; WWL-TV, New Orleans, La.; KTVK-TV, Phoenix, Ariz.; KASW-TV, Phoenix, Ariz.; KMSB-TV and KTTU-TV, Tucson, Ariz.; KVUE-TV, Austin, Tex.; and KHOU-TV, Houston, Tex.
