DTV hearings due in House after Easter holiday

The House Energy and Commerce Committee, chaired by Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-La.), expects to begin hearings on new digital television legislation following the Easter holiday Congressional recess.

The goal is a bill - details of which are still not known - to clear the House by the end of summer, says a press aide to the chairman. In the last Congress, Tauzin tried to set a specific date for broadcasters to return their analog spectrum to the United States government for auction. Fellow committee members rejected the idea at the time.
