Harris launches DTV transcoder/mixer with seamless 5.1 surround sound support

Harris has introduced NeuStar MultiMerge, a transcoder/mixer that converts all contributed audio into a consistent 5.1 surround sound signal, regardless of its original format or quality.

MultiMerge uses selective upmixing to combine any audio, including legacy mono, stereo, matrix-encoded stereo, and 5.1 discrete content, into a seamless 5.1 surround sound stream that can be delivered over any existing stereo backbone. Based on proprietary Neural technology, MultiMerge includes NeuStar PowerLift volume management. PowerLift normalizes volume, eliminating dramatic shifts in volumn levels that can cause viewers to tune away.
