IBM develops broadcast media infrastructure

IBM has announced a digital media infrastructure for broadcasting that features a digital video storage system that is centralized, operations-based, built upon open standards, and allows for communications between a number of broadcast applications. The new architecture follows the broadcast industry’s move to IT-based infrastructures and includes the use of computer-related technologies exclusively.

Among the first customers to use IBM’s Digital Media Center (DMC) is the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS). The IBM system allows SBS to store and archive news programming in an all-digital, centralized storage system. Users are able to easily search, retrieve and edit contents on a high-speed digital network replacing the need for papers and videotapes.
