The cost of advertising during Super Bowl XXXVIII is $2.25 million for a 30-second commercial, according to Advertising Age magazine, representing a seven percent increase from last year.
In all, there are 62 commercials (excluding pregame and halftime) available during the game, and the magazine said CBS, which is carrying the game this year, still has some unsold.
The price goes down to $1.8 million as the game goes into the fourth quarter, when viewers traditionally begin to loose interest.
Last year, according to Nielsen Media Research, the game was seen in more than 43 million households and watched by more than 88 million Americans. This year, media buyers are projecting the game will draw 90 million U.S. viewers.
