Several major Latin American broadcast facilities have placed approximately $4 million in orders for Grass Valley digital news production products from Thomson.

Five regional stations are replacing their analog news and play-to-air operations with Thomson’s digital news equipment. These stations include Radio y Television de Guatemala, Guatemala; Television Jamaica, Jamaica; CDN, Dominican Republic and Teleamazonas and Canal Uno, Ecuador.

Thomson’s digital news products are streamlining the way news segments are produced and saving valuable time-to-air by enabling newsrooms to easily share materials and eliminate videotape from the process.

Radio y Television de Guatemala in Guatemala City, has undergone a future-proof renovation of its news operations, including the installation of a Grass Valley DNPS system for its two popular newscasts. The station's networked news workflow now includes four Grass Valley NewsEdit XT nonlinear editing systems, 10 Grass Valley NewsBrowse Web-based video browsing and editing systems, and a Grass Valley Network Attached Storage (NAS) system for sharing materials.

Radio y Television de Guatemala has also purchased seven Grass Valley LDK 1707 digital cameras and a Grass Valley KayakDD 1 M/E digital production switcher for use in mobile production truck for live remote news coverage.

Canal Uno in Ecuador has taken delivery on two DNPS systems for its Guayaquil and Quito broadcast facilities. The order includes several NewsEdit XT nonlinear editing systems, a PVS 1100 Profile XP Media Platform SD server, a Zodiak digital video switcher, six LDK 1707 cameras, and many Grass Valley Gecko modular products.

Television Jamaica has built a new digital facility in Kingston, an end-to-end Digital News Production system that includes five NewsEdit XT systems and a NewsQ Pro integrated news playback system. The facility also includes two Zodiak switchers, four PVS 1000 Profile XP Media Platform servers, an M-2100 SD master control system, four LDK 100 digital cameras, a Concerto Series router, an Encore facility control system, NetCentral software for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)-based remote monitoring, and a full complement of Grass Valley modular products.

CDN, in Santo Domingo, has installed a complete Grass Valley Digital News Production suite, including dual channel NewsQ manual playback systems and four NewsEdit XT nonlinear editing systems for its redesigned news operations.

Teleamazonas, in Ecuador, has purchased a full complement of Grass Valley products for the news departments in Quito and Guayaquil. These installations feature a number of NewEdit XT nonlinear editing systems, a redundant NAS system, and NewsQ and NewsQ Pro for manual and automated playback. The station has also purchased a PVS 1100 Profile XP Media Platform server, a 64x64 Concerto Series router, an Encore facility control system, a Zodiak video production switcher, Gecko modular products, and an M-2100 HD master control system.
