CBS admitted it had “inadvertently” aired a program on KUTV in Salt Lake City, which violated an earlier consent decree with the FCC. The network has agreed to pay $300,000 to settle the case and end a license challenge..
The consent decree had settled several earlier indecency complaints including airing of an episode the CBS drama, “Without a Trace.” According to that decree, CBS failed to take proper remedial actions and aired an episode of the program before 10 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2004. This triggered a license challenge by the Parents Television Council.
The settlement ends the FCC’s investigation and license challenge, enabling CBS to sell the station to Cerbrus Capital.
