Charter Cable dumps Kentucky’s WKAG-TV

Charter Communications, the main cable television operator in Clarksville, KY, has dropped WKAG-TV, Channel 3, from its program lineup. The channel was denied carriage after an unresolved dispute over who would provide bandwidth for the station’s feed.
WKAG, based in nearby Hopkinsville, had for several years used a fiber-optic line provided by Charter to feed the cable’s headend. With an increasing demand for programming due to HD and the Internet, the cable operator wanted the bandwidth back and said it was the station’s responsibility to deliver its own signal.
When the station didn’t provide its signal, Charter dropped it. The station’s news operation provided coverage for cable viewers of the Hopkinsville, Clarksville and Fort Campbell areas. The station said it will continue its area coverage without Charter.
WKAG also broadcasts as Channel 3 on CDE Lightband. CDE has about one-fourth the number of subscribers as Charter.
