Consumers want local weather, news, sports on three screens, says Greeson

Ever wonder if your station is on track pursuing mobile and Internet distribution of content? Have you questioned if consumers really want the local news, weather and sports you’re delivering to their cell phones and computers? Michael Greeson, president and chief researcher of The Diffusion Group, says absolutely so.

Best of all, today’s activity is positioning TV stations to take advantage of a coming tidal wave in consumer demand for local content on these platforms, he says. According to Greeson, the next few years will see providers bundling video services for TV, mobile and Internet into one package, making it easier for consumers to decide to sign up.

This week, Greeson discusses a new TDG study that lays out just how important local news, sports and weather are to the success of bundled services and where these services are headed in the next few years.
