A total of 18 percent of IBC2009 attendees had technical job titles, according to demographic data released by convention organizers.

Preliminary data about the demographics of those attending IBC2009 indicates a total of 1355 companies exhibited at this year’s gathering, and total attendance stood at 45,547.

As previously announced, this year’s attendance was down by about 4000 from last year’s gathering, and the number of exhibitors was off by about 100.

By job function, the figures reveal CEOs/directors top the list, accounting for about 27 percent, followed by technical at 18 percent, sales and marketing at 17 percent, operations at 7.2 percent and R&D at 6 percent. The percentage of attendees with technical job functions attending this year’s gathering compared to IBC2008 fell from 28 percent of the total.

The roundup of demographic details indicates nearly 39 percent of those attending IBC2009 recommend or specify equipment to be purchased; about 38 percent have the power to make the final approval and purchase equipment; and 15 percent were users of equipment to be purchased.

As of late September, organizers of this year’s convention have not published a geographical breakdown of attendees, data about the size of the company attendees work for or the area of activity of companies represented by attendees.
