DigiCipher II to help NESN provide HD Boston Red Sox, Bruins home games

Motorola has announced that New England Sports Network (NESN) has expanded its DigiCipher II encoding system to provide high-definition broadcasts of Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins home games to subscribers.

NESN will use the Motorola DigiCipher II high-definition encoder at its uplink facility in Needham, MA, to compress live game feeds originating from Fenway Park and the FleetCenter. At the uplink, both SD and HD content is multiplexed together, encrypted, and broadcast using QPSK satellite modulation to downlink sites throughout New England. To receive the digital signals, affiliates can use the Motorola DSR- 4402X, DSR-4520X or DSR4400MD satellite receivers.
