EchoStar confronts distant signal cutoff order

The latest deadline for EchoStar to cease providing distant network signals is Dec. 1. The satellite operator, however, continues to fight the cutoff order in both the courts and Congress.

The Dec. 1 order, issued by U.S. District Judge William Dimitrouleas in Florida, could block the network feeds of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox to as many as 800,000 DISH Network customers.

The last hope for EchoStar customers at this point is a court stay of the judge’s order or a last-minute election year reprieve in Congress, which begins its lame duck session on Nov. 13.
