Joachim Bergman (on right), Head of Operations and Global Solutions, Ericsson Broadcast Services speaks to Broadcast Engineering at IBC2013. The company recently announced Ericsson Media Management Services, Bergman explains the rational behind this move.
As broadcasters rollout content to multiple devices, there are sound business reasons to look to service providers to provide the facilities for new platforms. A service provider like Ericsson can provide the many media management services that are needed to deliver VOD, Internet and mobile programming alongside conventional linear playout.
Ericsson already manages 200 channels with a presence in four countries. This brings a scale and cost advantages, plus Ericsson continues devlopment to support new platforms and devices.
Ericsson have announced that they intend to acquire Red Bee Media, which will add new services to their portfolio and strengthen their presence in Europe. Red Bee is best know as the BBC's playout provider.
