FCC allows North Carolina’s WGHP-TV to relocate to its pre-DTV transition channel

Since large numbers of viewers lost WGHP-TV’s over the air signal, the FCC has allowed the High Point, NC, television station to move its DTV signal from VHF’s channel 8 to its pretransition UHF channel 35.

WGHP had changed from channel 35 to channel 8 during the DTV transition on June 12.  Immediately losing viewers, it was  granted a temporary waiver to operate on both channels.  After monitoring the signal for several months, the station requested the move back to the original channel. The FCC agreed.

About a half-dozen stations are still deciding whether to switch channels, the FCC said last week.
