The Commission and the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) have agreed to share unclassified data about the location of towers in the United States.
The agencies signed a memorandum of understanding Oct. 29 to share the information to help maintain accurate information about “vertical obstructions” and antennas for the sake of national security, aircraft navigation safety and deployment of wireless communications services.
Under the agreement, the FCC will provide information contained in its Antenna Structure Registration (ASR) database and NIMA will supply its Digital Vertical Obstruction File (DVOF) on a quarterly basis.
