Michael Powell, FCC chairman, said he planned to stay at the agency last Tuesday, possibly through 2007 when his term expires, Reuters reported.
When asked, Powell said he would stay no later than 2007.
Powell, the son of Secretary of State Colin Powell, became a commissioner in 1997 and was promoted to chairman in 2001 by President George W. Bush.
Rumors had circulated that he could become president at the College of William and Mary, but Powell said the rumors were false.
