Fritts says broadcasters don’t want to hold analog spectrum

NAB President Eddie Fritts said it is a “big myth” that television broadcasters want to hold on to analog spectrum indefinitely. In a speech last week to the ATSC, he said there was no incentive for local stations to want this transition to go on indefinitely.

Fritts said analog television would end, but that the question for policymakers is when, and how to avoid disenfranchising millions of consumers in the process.

He said the NAB agrees with those in Congress who warn of the potential for consumer outrage if the DTV transition is not handled carefully.
