FSU improves efficiency with centralized media storage

Florida State University (FSU) is sharing media from centralized storage and simplifying access to source material at its Seminole Production post-production facility to improve workflow efficiency and streamline operations.
FSU has deployed EditShare at the facility where FSU College of Communication students create and deliver client-driven programming as well as packages related to the university’s athletics program. Many of the Seminole Productions programs use the same footage, so centralized storage and shared access were critically important.
Prior to installing EditShare, the facility would have to ingest media to each suite that needed specific footage, a time-consuming process that could cause the tapes to get lost in the shuffle.
EditShare ingests media once. It is then immediately available to all edit suites at the same time. The change in workflow has “cut down significantly the amount of time” spent ingesting, freeing staff to work with students, said director of Seminole Productions Mark Rodin.
Seminole Productions provides FSU students an educational environment in which they can learn their craft while working on real-world productions. The facility has 14 edit suites equipped with products from Adobe, Apple, Avid, Boris and Lightwave.
