Germany’s n-tv news channel podcasts with S4M system

Since May, the Cologne, Germany-based news channel n-tv has expanded the reach of its news content by sending it out via podcasts. After two months, the channel has reported more than 50,000 downloads.
Immediately following its traditional newscast, content is accessible on the n-tv website for free. Using software like Apple’s iTunes or others like iPodder, the video or audio files are played back whenever viewers want to watch them.
To do this, the new channel is using S4M’s Video Production Management System, which enables content creation, management, editing and distribution of digital video material. At n-tv, the system is integrated into the daily workflow, from automatic video ingest and voice-overs, to monitoring of data communication to the playout server.
Using the VPM system, n-tv produces podcasts in a highly efficient and easy way, whereby a program is selected and then converted into a podcast directly from the newsroom. Titles, logos and other ancillary data can be added automatically as well. The system can also be used for editing the podcast before it goes out to the public.
