Globalstar unveils GSP-1700 satellite phone

Globalstar has the introduced the GSP-1700, its next-generation satellite telephone handset.

The mobile satellite telephone operates on the Globalstar satellite network in more than 120 countries and six continents around the world. It incorporates Globalstar hardware features into a product that significantly reduces size and weight.

The GSP-1700 is being manufactured by QUALCOMM and incorporates its Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM6500 chipset solution for EV-DO networks.

Weighing approximately 7.1oz, the newly designed GSP-1700 telephone is nearly half the weight of the company’s current satellite handset and close to 45 percent smaller in size. The new Li-Ion battery is designed to provide users with four hours of talk time and 36 hours of standby time.
