Harris launches Software Systems division

Leveraging its acquisition of Encoda Systems last fall, Harris has launched a new Software Systems Business Unit within its Broadcast Communications Division that offers broadcasters the combined engineering resources and content delivery technology of Harris' automation business and newly acquired Encoda assets. John Sorensen, former CEO of Encoda Systems, will head the new division as president.

Targeting major market and small broadcasters, cable/MSOs and satellite service providers, the new unit will offer modular, workflow management and service management systems designed with open APIs for ease of integration and unlimited scalability.

Jeremy Wensinger, president and general manager of Harris' Broadcast Communications Division, said the new Software Systems division will allow Harris to offer highly customized solutions — addressing content creation, distribution and transmission -- that will help increase stations’ functionality, productivity and revenue. It also provides evidence of Harris’ evolution from a hardware-focused, transmission system company to a provider of integrated workflow solutions that are applicable to broadband, advertising, digital asset management, automation and “back office” technology.
