Model HDTV station at NAB2005

Nigel Spratling, a partner with Linear Acoustic, is working with the National Association of Broadcasters to create a model HDTV station in the North Hall of the LVCC for next year's conference. Spratling is seeking the help and advice of volunteers and equipment manufacturers willing to donate time and equipment to make it a success.
The goals for the project includes:
- Providing an educational platform for local TV station engineering and operations staff. Chief engineers and system architects who have helped develop existing implementations are being asked to participate and share their experiences via a series of interactive, how to presentations for convention attendees.
- Creating an NAB TV channel for distribution to local hotels and shuttle buses (new for 2005, shuttle buses will have LCD monitors on board) as well as provide output in HD to several convention center locations. The group will also try to receive external feeds to demonstrate local insertion, and they can secure satellite time, the signal will be made available to broadcasters across the country. Content will also be streamed to the Internet. In Las Vegas, volunteers will gather news content from the show floor as well as provide editing and program direction.
Spratling said that the choice of specific equipment used will be based on the presenters’ own implementation experience and equipment availability. All participants will be mentioned in the form of program credits. Equipment and service providers will be advertised as project sponsors.
