Looking to streamline its production across multiple platforms, Hearst-Argyle Television said it is converting some of its stations to Sony's XDCAM Professional Disc System for electronic newsgathering (ENG) and creative services operations. The company will be using a combination of Sony's standard- and high-definition file-based XDCAM technology.
To start, stations WCVB-TV in Boston; WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh; WESH-TV in Orlando, FL; and KCRA-TV in Sacramento, CA, will begin using XDCAM HD equipment, specifically Sony's new PDW-F350 optical camcorder, to acquire content for internal and external communications, promotional spots and advertising material.
Meanwhile, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati; WYFF-TV in Greenville, SC; WXII-TV in Winston Salem, NC; KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, OK; and KITV-TV in Honolulu, will all use Sony's PDW-350 SD camcorders and optical decks for their ENG operations. Initially, these systems will be used in a hybrid, nonlinear editing production chain, with content transferred back to tape for playback.
Reaching approximately 18 percent of U.S. households, Hearst-Argyle Television owns 25 television stations and manages an additional three television and two radio stations.
