SMPTE has announced the induction of 11 New Fellows.
The individuals will be recognized at the SMPTE Honors and Awards Ceremony, Thursday, November 10, and during the Fellows Luncheon Saturday, November 12, 2005, at the Hilton New York.
Brad Gilmer and John Luff, two contributors to Broadcast Engineering magazine, are among the inductees.
Gilmer is executive director of the Advanced Authoring Format Association. He has developed the Advanced Authoring Format (AAF) and participated, along with the Pro-MPEG Forum, in co-development of the Material eXchange Format (MXF). Gilmer served as co-chair of the Pro-MPEG Forum’s File Interchange Working Group. Gilmer is president of Gilmer & Associates, a management and technology-consulting firm. He has been an active participant within the SMPTE technology committees since 1984.
Luff is senior vice-president of business development at AZCAR, with 39 years of experience in broadcasting, post-production, facilities management, remote production, project management, technical consulting, and system design. He is also a consultant and lecturer on emerging media technologies. Luff has been an editor, master control operator, cameraman, maintenance technician, manager, and business owner. Luff has been active in SMPTE since 1973 and has served the Society on various engineering committees, and chaired several Awards committees.
