As part of its extensive infrastructure upgrade program and to
create an additional transmission suite, Channel 4 has ordered four
additional MediaStream MSS-900SI servers based on the new Palladium
Store 1000 from Pinnacle Systems.
The new Pinnacle servers are the latest installment of Channel 4's
three-year upgrade program. The independent broadcaster now services
both digital and analog DTT platforms, plus its E4 offering and three
FilmFour services on DSAT.
Pinnacle's servers offer accurately timed clip playback for improved
presentation of programming and increased workflow in the new tape-less
environment. For FilmFour, they provide all programming, in addition to
the interstitial material. The new MSS-900Sis provide the main service
for Channel 4, as well as capacity for future expansion.
Seven Pinnacle servers and three StreamFactory media encoders are
already installed at the broadcaster's London headquarters. It is
expected to be fully operational by August 2003.
