Comcast SportsNet installs SSL's digital broadcast console

Comcast SportsNet, owner of the broadcast rights for the Philadelphia 76ers (NBA), Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) and Philadelphia Phillies (Major League Baseball), is maximizing the efficiency of its diverse sports broadcasts with the help of Solid State Logic’s C100 digital broadcast console.
The C100 audio console is configured with SSL’s remote (mic input) stagebox option, allowing Comcast SportsNet to broadcast games from two separate venues out of a single, high-definition control room. Each home game will feature full 5.1 Surround Sound.
According to Steve Zaretsky, SSL’s VP of Broadcast, the C100 console will serve as the hub for Comcast SportsNet’s centralized audio production. It will be located in the Wachovia Center, home of the National Basketball Association’s Philadelphia 76ers as well as the National Hockey League’s Philadelphia Flyers. An SSL stagebox, which was included as part of the C100’s components, will be placed at nearby Citizens Bank Park, the all-new home of Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies that is opening in 2004. Microphones from the baseball stadium will then be connected to the C100 at the Wachovia Center by fiber optic cable via the stagebox, streamlining Comcast SportsNet’s production operations and allowing home games from all three teams to be produced from a single facility, providing Comcast SportsNet with unprecedented flexibility.
Comcast SportsNet’s C100 console will be one of the centerpieces of the all-new broadcast control room that is being built at the Wachovia Center. A.F. Associates is managing the systems integration for the facility, which is expected to be fully online and operational when the Phillies take the field against the Cincinnati Reds April 12 for the inaugural home game from Citizens Bank Park.
