Leitch helps Thailand broadcaster transition to digital
Oct 10, 2003 12:00 PM
Thailand's largest pay television operator, United Broadcasting
Corporation (UBC), has awarded Leitch a multi-million dollar contract
to convert its conventional tape facility into a completely digital
production and transmission operation. UBC is the first major
broadcaster in Southeast Asia to adopt a total tapeless solution for
its production and operations.
The solution comprises two video server systems, including seven
ingest ports; 15 playout ports; 11 NewsFlash craft editors; and 25
seats of low-resolution workstations. System storage is abundant at
11.7TB central storage and 48TB nearline storage; as well as digital
infrastructure and Integrator router and Leitch's Command Control
System (CCS), for remote monitoring and control.
The project consists of three phases. The first phase is estimated
to be complete by the end of 2003. In the first phase of the project,
UBC will convert three channels - UBC Inside, UBC Asian Movies and the
History Channel - to digital by gradually phasing out the current video
tape recorder for both the production and transmission system.
This eBook provides both new and veteran shooters an in-depth understanding of the technology that lies between the camera lens and the recording medium and how to maximize a camera's performance.
File-based technologies have replaced video tape methods for a majority of production and broadcast operations. The worlds of AV and IT are coalescing to create new methods and workflows for media
Video compression, editing and displays is an in-depth tutorial on MPEG compression technology, editing MPEG content and evaluating color video monitors written by long-time video expert, trainer and writer Steve Mullen, Ph. D.
