South American Horseracing broadcaster saddles up with Grass Valley gear

Hipica Rioplatense Uruguay has purchased a Grass Valley XtenDD-35 switcher, five Grass Valley TTV1707 and TTV1657 digital video cameras, several Grass Valley Tritonseries routers, and a variety of Grass Valley modular products from Thomson. The broadcaster will use the equipment to capture and distribute via satellite live races from Uruguay’s Hipodromo de Maroñas throughout Latin America, the United States, and Europe.



TVB The Grass Valley XtenDD series of digital video production switchers, available in 2-, 3-, or 4 M/E versions, includes SD and HD models that feature local area network (LAN) technology, high-performance chroma key capabilities, and macro key memory.

The Grass Valley TTV 1707 is a 12-bit digital triax camera available in several configurations including the Sportcam—a portable configuration for studio or field production, which has been installed at the Hipodromo de Maroñas.

The Grass Valley XtenDD series of digital video production switchers, available in 2-, 3-, or 4 M/E versions, includes SD and HD models that feature local area network (LAN) technology, high-performance chroma key capabilities, and macro key memory. Each switcher also offers an advanced graphical user interface (GUI) for direct control of all features and is designed to fit inside remote production trucks and studio control rooms with limited space. Four channels of digital video effects deliver 3-D planar effects and the switcher's four channels of RAM storage provide 32 seconds of internal clip memory.

The Grass Valley Triton router is ideal for space- and cost-constrained applications, including dubbing and monitoring, tape-to-disk duplication, and video surveillance. It supports all signal types up to 1.485 Gb/s, including standard- and high-definition (SD and HD) video, analog video, AES/EBU digital audio, analog audio, and telecom and RS 422 data.

Hipica Rioplatense Uruguay will broadcast its programming from a new studio that will house the XtenDD digital production switcher. The switcher includes 28 inputs, 2 mix effects (M/E) channels, built-in digital effects, 3 keyers, and assorted wipe effects. The new studio will also house the Triton routers and Grass Valley modular products.

The fixed-position Grass Valley cameras used at the Hipodromo de Maroñas will be outfitted with HD digital lenses. FDM Broadcast SRL, the Thomson representative for Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, supplied the equipment along with engineering and Kavulakian Comunicaciones assisted in the installation of the new studio.
