TVNorge, a private television station that is transmitted via satellite and cable, has installed a new networking fiber solution in its Oslo, Norway office.

To give the staff a faster response and download time when working with large audio and video files, IT management installed a 3M Volition fiber solution that was cost-competitive with copper cabling.

The Volition system consists of all the products needed to install a complete fiber optic LAN from passive cabling infrastructure to active equipment including desktop and server-based fiber NICs, media converters, modular workgroup and core switches.

Geir Løvvik, IT Manager, said all bandwidth intensive applications were improved with the installation. He said the system, with 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet switches eliminated performance problems and has the option to upgrade switches up to a Gigabit without recabling.
