Sky News in London has bought Sony XDCAM camcorders and recording decks for use in five of its news bureaus.
The news channel is taking delivery of 10 PDW-510P Sony XDCAM camcorders, seven PVW-V1 playback only XDCAM mobile decks, and an additional eight PDW-1500 XDCAM compact decks.
Sky News bureaus in Johannesburg, Dublin, Belfast, Brussels and Edinburgh will use the equipment, which includes the latest v1.1 XDCAM software, released at IBC2004.
The XDCAM allows random access acquisition of high-resolution audiovisual content, low-resolution proxies; metadata and associated PC project files, on the same medium.
All XDCAM products use rugged, high-capacity Professional Disc media to store up to 85 minutes of DVCAM or 45 minutes of 50Mb/s MPEG IMX signals, which is comparable to Digital Betacam quality, on a tough professional disc cartridge.
