WDIV upgrades with Sony switcher

WDIV-TV, a Post-Newsweek television station in Detroit, has upgraded its infrastructure with the installation of a Sony DVS-9000 production switcher.
Jason Weintraub, WDIV's technical director said the switcher gives the station greater flexibility because it provides an increased number of available sources. The new switcher also allows WDIV to produce a more advanced graphics presentation while at the same time providing a user-friendlier interface to access its feature set.
Other features of the DVS-9000 that were attractive to WDIV included: more inputs and more keyers per M/E, improved file transfer times, server control, expanded frame memory and the overall flexibility of the panel.
The switcher integrates seamlessly with the multiformat MVS-8000, as well as with Sony’s full line of production switchers. It shares the same control panels and control data systems. It can be configured from 2- to 4M/E banks in the processor frame, and multiple processors and panels may be connected on the same network, allowing for increased resource sharing and mission-critical redundancy.
The DVS system uses two 100Mb/s Ethernet connections on all DVS and MVS components and Sony peripherals. These Ethernet connections are used for real-time control and data transfer. An optional network manager PC can be added to the data Ethernet for access to available LAN/WAN systems.
Image file transfers are also available for sharing graphics and titling resources. The optional frame memory will store up to 444 still frame images.
