IBC2008 to examine capital investment in a changing broadcast world

IBC2008 will present “Technology and capital investments driving the future of business success?” Friday, Sept. 12.
Given the rapid changes in the broadcast industry, deciding what areas merit capital investment has never been more important.
IBC2008 will address the issue, offering some insight on making investments in the right technologies during its “Technology and capital investments driving the future of business success?” session Friday, Sept. 12.
Led by Michael McEwen, director of Media Asset Capital, the session’s panel will include: Roger Stanwell, CEO of IABM in the UK; Roger Crumpton, director of IABM in the UK; Janet Gardner, president of Perspective Media Group in the United States; Trevor Bird, general manager of group technical services for Seven Network in Australia; Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast in the United States; and Chuck Dages, executive VP of emerging technology for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group in the United States.
The session will examine how the traditional role of the chief engineer is changing as new content distribution platforms requiring new architectures come online. Today, the chief engineer offers one of several important perspectives when it comes to deciding how best to invest capital to add new services. All of these perspectives must be thoroughly analyzed from a business perspective before any decision is made.
The session also will explore how engineering management can drive decision making and the implementation of new technologies as personnel from the IT, corporate development and accounting worlds offer their opinions.
