IBC Innovation Awards recognize excellence

The winners of the newly instituted IBC Innovation Awards were announced Sunday, Sept. 10, during a special ceremony.

The Innovative Application of Technology in Content Creation Award went to BBC R&D and Red Bee Media for the Piero sports graphics project, which creates a 3-D model of a play from live video in real time.

Other IBC Innovation Awards presented included:

  • Content Management Award honoring the T-Systems digital cinema project, which demonstrated how a carrier-grade global communications network can deliver digital movies to almost anywhere in the world;
  • Content Delivery Award presented to Createcna, which led the partnership that created the 3G Mobile Studio that allows a user to transmit live video and audio content from a 3G handset into a broadcast system;
  • The Judge's Award presented to Infront Sports & Media and Host Broadcast Services for their work on new media production at the 2006 FIFA World Cup;
  • The 2006 IBC International Honor for Excellence presented to Aardman Animations.
