Inmarsat completes I-4 satellite repositioning project

Inmarsat, the company responsible for the satellites used by a variety of broadcasters to stream live news reports and transfer video files from remote areas, went live Feb. 24 with its Inmarsat-4 F1 satellite, completing a project to relocate its broadband satellites to provide global coverage.

The move completes the company’s network optimization program, which required repositioning its constellation of I-4 broadband satellites.

The new global I-4 satellite regions are:

  • I-4 Americas — from 98 degrees west
  • I-4 EMEA — from 25 degrees east
  • I-4 Asia-Pacific — from 143.5 degrees east
The project also affected Inmarsat's satellite phone services, including IsatPhone, LandPhone and FleetPhone, which are now available on both the I-4 EMEA and I-4 Asia-Pacific satellites.
