KATU-TV and KVAL-TV are taking delivery of 29 Panasonic AJ-SPX800 P2 camcorders.
Seattle-based Fisher Communications has purchased $850,000 worth of Panasonic DVCPRO P2 series equipment for news operations at its ABC affiliate KATU-TV (Portland, OR) and CBS affiliate KVAL-TV (Eugene, OR).
Fisher operates 10 television stations throughout the Northwest. KATU-TV and KVAL-TV are currently taking delivery of 29 Panasonic AJ-SPX800 P2 cameras, 29 AJ-PCS060 P2 store drives, seven AJ-SDP850 decks with built-in DVD recorders, 17 AJ-PCD10 drives and a large number of 4GB P2 cards.
The new P2 installations at KATU and KVAL will be used as test beds to gauge the group’s ability to transition to IT/file-based news operations at all its stations.
DVCPRO P2 series products are compatible with DVCPRO, the tape-based format used for digital newsgathering. DVCPRO P2 offers nonlinear acquisition and instant access to material, high-speed file transfer, laptop field editing without requirement for proxy videos, and compatibility with off-the-shelf data storage drives for archiving, while eliminating traditional digitizing and ingesting operations.
