KMPH-TV, a Pappas Telecasting owned FOX affiliate in the Fresno-Visalia, CA, has initiated a free text message service for its viewers.

Using TextCaster software, the new service delivers news and program-oriented text messages to cell phones. The content includes:

  • Breaking news
  • National security alerts
  • Daily morning weather forecast
  • Traffic alerts
  • Contests and promotions information
  • Daily stock market closing information
  • AMBER alerts

Viewers may sign up for this free service by visiting www.kmph.com, and then clicking the First Alert News link. Text messages reach the mobile phones of users who opt-in almost immediately.

Pappas Telecasting has already initiated text-messaging service at KTNC-TV, the Azteca America affiliate in the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose and Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto DMAs. It offers the first text service with AMBER Alerts in Spanish. The company previously announced plans to offer text-messaging service at KPTM-TV, Omaha, NE; KDBC-TV, El Paso, TX; KSWT-TV, Yuma, AZ; and KHGI-TV, Lincoln-Hastings-Kearney, NE.
