KNOP-TV chooses DTG for automation upgrade

Using IBM eSeries computers, the new Xe System at KNOP-TV in North Platte, NE, has enabled the station to automate its handling of commercial insertion, including capture and playback.

KNOP-TV, the NBC affiliate in North Platte, NE, has installed a two-channel channel Xe automation system, with the help of the Digital Transaction Group.

The Xe has enabled the station to automate its handling of commercial insertion, including capture and playback. DTG transferred KNOP’s entire spot inventory to a new video server, including importing the entire database. This transfer process took four days.

Station executives said the new Xe improved its on-air look and has resulted in less manual intervention and fewer missed switches.

KNOP’s Xe system is housed in 11RUs, automates two playlist schedules, and controls up to 32 devices. There’s also room for expansion without the need for extra hardware. The Xe uses IBM eSeries computers, running applications for media preparation, content management and on-air playlists.
