Korea Telecom upgrades satellite operations with Network Electronics

Korea Telecom is using the flashlink fiber optic transport platform from Network Electronics to upgrade its Satellite Operations division.
Korea Telecom (KT) has installed a fully-redundant Network Electronics flashlink fiber optic transport platform in its Satellite Operations division in Kwan-Jin Gu, Seoul, as part of the facility’s digital upgrade.

Network Electronics' flashlink allows KT to receive 20 digital signals from 13 CATV providers and distribute the signals to 50 system operators throughout Korea via satellite. The system launched in October.

The system was designed around 86 sets of flashlink’s SDI-TR and SDI-OE multi bit-rate converters and transponder modules. The SDI-TR provides media conversion for broadcast signals from 19.4Mb/s up to 540Mb/s and can be configured as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical converter, or as an optical-to-optical transponder. The SDI-OE also provides optical-to-electrical conversion for various signal formats. KT is utilizing the system to deliver analog video/audio, digital video/audio and analog Q-tone signals.

KT populates its flashlink frames with a suite of Network Electronics’ ConQuer signal processing modules. This includes 10-bit, high-quality ADC-SDI NTSC/PAL composite to digital 4:2:2 encoders, and DAC-SDI digital 4:2:2 to NTSC/PAL composite encoders, AAV-MUX analog audio embedders and AAV-DMUX analog audio de-embedders.

KT plans to extend the system with 30 additional links.
