KT launches ‘Mega TV’ test

South Korea’s KT last week launched a test of its “Mega TV” IPTV service with its sites set on a commercial launch by as soon as the middle of next month.

KT, which previewed its IPTV service to about 200 press members Sept. 18 in Seoul, will spend about $1.5 billion through 2012 on the service, according to media reports. The initial showing featured 12 channels, but KT plans an eventual service offering that will include up to 130 channels and VOD service. KT envisions having 300,000 subscribers by year’s end and 3 million by 2011, the reports said.
