MLB approves sale of Dodgers; McCourts 52 percent, FOX 48 percent ownership
Major League Baseball this week approved real estate developer Frank McCourt’s purchase of controlling interest in the Los Angeles Dodgers from FOX Entertainment for $430 million dollars. A report in The Los Angeles Times indicates that McCourt will expand televised coverage of the Dodgers to every game, and Fox will pay an additional $10 million per year through 2012 to carry the additional 20 games each season.
University of Florida kicks off streaming game coverage with GatorVision Online
Last night GatorVision Online, a new service streaming University of Florida athletic events over the Internet, debuted with coverage of the women’s basketball game between the University of Alabama and the Gators. MaxVU Sports Broadcasting Network streamed video game coverage at dial-up and DSL/cable speeds. Audio play-by-play and color are provided by the accompanying radio broadcast that’s streamed. RCN adds CBS HD to its lineup in time for the Super Bowl
RCN has added CBS to its high-definition television platform in time to provide Super Bowl XXXVIII coverage, along with the network’s other sports, news and entertainment lineup. Ascheim named executive vice president, general manager of Nickelodeon Digital Television
Tom Ascheim has been appointed to the newly created position of executive vice president, general manager of Nickelodeon Digital Television. Ascheim will oversea the children’s network’s four premiere digital television channels, which include Nickelodeon Games and Sports (GAS). GAS covers sports and games of interest to children.
McGuire appointed sales manager for Barco Sports
Monte McGuire has been named sales manager for the Barco Sports division in Logan, UT. McGuire will cover the western region of North America and report to Dave Belding, vice president of sales for Barco Sports. McGuire, who has experience in the flat panel and large format display industry, lettered in varsity football at Texas Tech University and spent a year with the Denver Broncos.
