Broadcom integrates Adobe Flash on SoCs
Broadcom has integrated the Adobe Flash Platform into its latest DTV and set-top box (STB) system-on-a-chip (SoC) platforms, the two companies announced last week.
The collaboration paves the way for rich Flash-based entertainment on televisions that offers viewers new options for accessing Web content on their TVs.
With Adobe Flash Late 3 software supported in the Broadcom BCM3549, BCM3556, BCM7400 and BCM7405 SoC solutions, TV viewers will be able to view Flash-based content and applications from online providers and entertainment sites. The SoCs with integrated Adobe Flash support are expected to be available to manufacturers in the first half of 2009.

Rip Code raises $12.5 million in financing
Internet and mobile video infrastructure solutions provider Rip Code has secured more than $12.5 million in additional financing, the company said last week.
Granite Ventures led the round alongside existing investors Hunt Ventures, El Dorado Ventures, Elbridge Partners and ATA Ventures. Additionally, Eric Limits, managing director of Granite Ventures, joins Rip Code’s board of directors.
Rip Code plans to expand sales, marketing and product development of its next-generation media conversion technology.

Samsung and Yahoo! to bind Internet content to TVs
Samsung Electronics and Yahoo! last week announced a new Internet-based service to Samsung televisions available in the spring of 2009.
Select models will be powered by the Yahoo! Widget Engine, which enables TV watchers to interact with and enjoy a rich set of "TV Widgets." TV Widgets make it easy to interact with Internet content and services to complement and enhance the traditional TV viewing experience.

Lavation, VMAX Telecom ink deal for Imax base stations
Imax and wireless broadband solutions provider Lavation has signed a contract with VMAX Telecom to deploy Mobile Imax in Taiwan.
Lavation will provide VMAX Telecom with its Imax Forum Certified Breeze AX 2500 base station, as part of the company’s 4Motion solution. The new network will enable VMAX Telecom to provide wireless IP services, such as voice, data, video and gaming.

Volican names Sachs as senior director of marketing
Volican has appointed Andrew Sachs as senior director of marketing for the cable, IPTV and mobile video operator industry, the company said Jan. 6.
In his new role, Sachs will be responsible for developing the market for Volicon's Observer and Observer RPM solutions, which let video operators automatically evaluate the quality of their broadcasts, VOD and interactive services, and advertising offerings at headends and remote locations.
Sachs has more than 18 years of experience in test and measurement solutions.

French telco secures IPTV content with Verimatrix VCAS
French operator Bourges Telecom has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV.
Bourges Telecom is securing its MPEG-4 live broadcast and on-demand video content delivered via ASDL to the BBOX home gateway, which was launched in October 2008.

CSI Digital initiates IPTV program distribution service
CSI Digital has launched a program to assist IPTV operators re-acquire programming due to SES Americom’s decision to cease offering its IP-Prime service July 31.
CSI Digital has expanded its product offering to deliver more than 270 channels of MPEG-4 SD and HD programming content. This content enables telecommunications companies to offer IPTV video services as a part of a triple-play offering. CSI Digital has partnered with Power & Telephone Supply (Power & Tel) to help with these efforts.
