South Korea’s LG Electronics is back on top as the world’s No. 1 television set manufacturer, while Sharp holds the top spot for making LCD sets, CNET reported.

Panasonic holds the top spot in plasma TVs, while Sony retained its No. 1 position in rear-projection televisions, according to research firm iSuppli.

LG shipped 5.7 million televisions worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2005, accounting for nearly 11 percent of the market. In the third quarter, LG had slipped from first to third place behind China’s TCL-Thomson and Samsung.

ISuppli said traditional CRT televisions still accounted for 82 percent of shipments in 2005.
