Megahertz to supply BBC Technology with two DSNG trucks

BBC Technology has chosen Cambridge-based Megahertz Broadcast Systems to supply and install two new digital satellite newsgathering (DSNG) vehicles.

BBC Technology is buying the vehicles, based on 413CDI MWB Sprinter panel vans, for the BBC to support local and national newsgathering in Southampton and Plymouth.

The Southampton vehicle will be fitted with a single 400-watt HPA satellite system capable of dual-carrier operation and a 7GHz terrestrial microwave ENG link mounted on a 12-meter pneumatic mast. The Plymouth vehicle will have a dual-channel, dual-thread system, with two 400-watt HPAs and waveguide redundancy switching.

Both vehicles will be equipped for multi-camera live program production and three-machine tape editing. Under the contract, Megahertz will provide the satellite systems, 7GHz link, coachwork and systems integration for both vans.

The vehicle for the BBC’s Plymouth operation will be on display at the Megahertz Broadcast Systems Stand 11.611 at this year’s IBC conference in Amsterdam.
