Helping to improve productivity and streamline the handling of broadcast content, WNIN-TV, a PBS member TV station in Evansville, IN, has selected MicroFirst’s Digital Automation System (DAS) for station automation and near-line archive management and control.
The fully redundant DAS offers the ability to cost-effectively perform ingest, metadata management and the transmission of multichannel content. At WNIN-TV, it will control 15 Grass Valley K2 server channels, five Miranda’s ImageStore and Intuition systems, a Utah Scientific 400 routing switcher, four Digital Vision BitLinks, four Motorola IRDs, a Triveni PSIP generator, a Sage Emergency Alert System, several VTRs and a 48TB network attached storage system.
Real-time control for the Digital Automation System runs on MicroFirst‘s real-time OS, powered by MicroFirst’s PowerPC based Multiport Microcontroller (MPC 3200). Unlike with traditional PC architecture, the DAS features no single point of failure and no waiting for long boot-up processes.
Serving the Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri markets, WNIN-TV is owned by Tri-State Public Teleplex, a non-profit corporation that operates non-commercial TV stations WNIN Ch 9 and WNIN DT Ch12, and radio station WNIN-FM 88. The studio facilities are located in a turn-of-the-century estate called the Willard Carpenter mansion.
