Multidyne debuts electro-optical technology for point to multipoint switching

Multidyne has announced its EOS-4000 electro-optical switch, a multipurpose, non-blocking electro-optical switch that provides high-speed switching between ports and won’t affect overall network latency. The system provides point-to-point, multiple loops, and multicast topologies simultaneously. Housed in a compact 4U chassis, the EOS-4000 series can switch digital signals up to 4.25Gb/s with any of its 144 ports. Any digital fiber optic signal can be optically switched from one point to multiple points.

The EOS-4000 is compatible with the entire Multidyne digital fiber optic product line. All optical ports are hot-pluggable SFP transceivers. The GUI software allows users to build configurations by dragging and dropping ports. The unit is designed to accept up to three modular port cards with up to 48 small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceiver modules per port card. Each SFP transceiver module provides the physical ports for one input/output pair.
