NBC selects Avid for Beijing Olympics editing workflow

NBC has selected Avid Technology to implement an end-to-end editing workflow for the network during its coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Aug. 8-24 — the fifth consecutive time the pair has worked together on the Olympic Games.
To deliver more than 3600 hours of HD programming over 17 days, NBC will use 224TB of Avid Unity ISIS shared storage dispersed across four systems, including an Avid Interplay system. NBC also will deploy about 34 Avid systems for editing, ingest, capture and playout and will use the Avid DNxHD codec to reduce storage and bandwidth requirements.
The 75,000sq-ft International Broadcast Center (IBC) in Beijing, China, has a number of HD nonlinear edit suites outfitted with Avid Symphony Nitris and Media Composer systems connected to Unity ISIS and Interplay systems.
Avid DNxchange systems will integrate with an EVS XT[2] system to enable real-time conversion of EVS HD media to the Avid DNxHD 120 format for HD production at 1080i/50 within the Avid shared-storage environment. When fully operational, the NBC IBC will be equipped to handle more than 160TB of HD media in a shared-storage environment, or about 1250 hours of HD footage.
