NDS, Alcatel-Lucent partnership to provide content protection infrastructure for Singapore mobile TV trial

NDS is providing the core conditional access security infrastructure for the Singapore commercial trial of the new Open Mobile Alliance’s BCAST Smartcard Profile standard, an emerging standard for mobile TV content protection.

The three-month trial will be run by mobile telecommunications providers M1, SingTel and StarHub in conjunction with Singapore’s MediaCorp. Alcatel-Lucent’s mobile TV service powers the DVB-H platform for the trial, which also includes Samsung mobile devices and Gemalto's Smartcard Profile-compliant SIM cards.

The NDS solution combines content protection from its VideoGuard Mobile with its Unified Headend convergence platform. This architecture centralizes digital rights management for all mobile TV broadcasts, regardless of delivery network or user device. The platform also supports multiple mobile broadcast profiles and handsets simultaneously and economically by centralizing content distribution from a single headend.
